In an effort to promote the education and awareness of the Ethiopian and Ethiopian-American communities' involvement in the American democratic process, the Ethiopian-American Constituency Foundation (EACF) would like to invite you to the third part of a panel discussion series entitled Dialogue among Ethiopians in the Diaspora III?. The Community would also like to use this opportunity to honor the Honorable Jim Graham, City Council Member, District of Columbia for his efforts in successfully introducing legislation allowing Ethiopians among other immigrants to use Amharic ( Ethiopia) to gain access to area agencies in the District of Columbia.

12:00-2:00 p.m. Luncheon in honor of City Council Member, District of Columbia Jim Graham
(Courtesy of Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant) On April 21st Mayor Anthony Williams signed in to law the Language Access Act, which would require the District of Columbia agencies to provide written translation of documents as well as interpretation services at public meetings. The Language Access Act (B15-039) will allow local immigrant residents to gain access to area agencies and truly benefit from public services.

2:00-3:00 p.m.The Return of Our Obelisk
The struggle for the return of the Axum obelisk, looted by the Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini in 1937 will, have reached a successful and auspicious conclusion upon transport of the ancient relic from an airport warehouse in Rome to its true destination: Ethiopia. Nevertheless only the United States and Russia have cargo planes powerful enough to airlift the monument back to Ethiopia. Historian Dr. Richard Pankhurst (pictured to the right) has been one of Ethiopia's most vocal advocates for the return of the stolen obelisk.
